The Nigerian army (NA) is the largest component of the Nigerian Armed Forces responsible for land warfare operations. It is governed by the Nigerian Army Council (NAC). Functionally, the Nigerian Army is organized into combat arms, which are infantry and armored; the combat support arms, which are artillery, engineers, and signals; the combat support services comprise medical, supply and transport, ordinance and finance. Other armies include the military police, intelligence, physical training, chaplains, public relations and band. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) located in Minna is responsible for doctrinal, training and combat development, and supervises training centers.

Nigeria Army Division, Headquarter and contact information

1 Division, headquartered in Kaduna – Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian Army is located in Kaduna. It was established during the civil war. It is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility (AOR) covering the North Western flank of Nigeria and also ensuring that the borders located in its AOR are secured. The division is a mechanized infantry with affiliated combat support and combat service support units.

2 Division (HQ in Ibadan) – Headquarters 2 Division Nigerian Army is located in Ibadan, Oyo State.  It was established during the civil war.  It is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility (AOR) covering the South Western flank of Nigeria and also ensuring that the borders located in its AOR are secured.  The division is a mechanized infantry with affiliated combat support and combat service support units.

3 Armoured Division HQ in Jos – 3 Division’s headquarters is at Rukuba Cantonment, Jos, Plateau State in the North-East, and includes 21 Armoured Brigade Maiduguri, 23 Brigade Yola, and 33 Artillery Brigades. It was established during the civil war. It is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility (AOR) covering the Northern Eastern flank of Nigeria and also ensuring that the borders located in its AOR are secured.  The division is an armoured division with affiliated combat support and combat service support units.

6th Amphibious Division HQ Port Harcourt – 6 Division is the newest of the Nigerian Army formations. Established on 8 November 2016, with the Headquarters in Port Harcourt. The division was established to organize and improve its internal security operations in four states of the Niger Delta. The Division covers the Army’s 2 Brigade Akwa Ibom; 16 Brigade Bayelsa and 63rd Brigade in Delta, respectively, with divisional headquarters in Port Harcourt.

7th Infantry Division (OP-LD) HQ in Maiduguri – 7th Infantry Division (OP-LD) HQ in Maiduguri. The 7 Division NA is the youngest Division among the 6 divisions of the Nigerian Army. The Division established to decisively counter the threat of insurgency, terrorism and armed banditry prevalent in the North Eastern part of the country. It became operational with effect from 22 Aug 13 with its area of operational responsibilities covering 3 north eastern state of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe state. The division’s HQ is located in Maiduguri and the approved mascot is a Wolf while the approved logo is a snaring Wolf and the Arabic numeral “7” superimposed on a background of horizontal yello ochre (sandy brown), 7 green stripes as well as red and black colours. The motto of the Division is “Doggedness and Boldness”

8th Division HQ Sokoto – 8 Division is located in Kalaimbana, in Sokoto,

81st Division (Amphibious) HQ in Lagos – Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army is located in Lagos. It was formed during the colonial era.  The Division which replaced the Lagos Garrison Command (LGC) came into being in 2000. It is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility (AOR) covering Lagos and Ogun States of Nigeria which are economic nerve centres of the country and also ensuring that the borders located in its AOR are secured.  The division is a mechanized infantry with affiliated combat support and combat service support units.

82nd Division (Airborne and Amphibious) HQ in Enugu – Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army is located in Enugu.  It was established in 1975.  It is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility (AOR) covering the South Eastern and South Southern flanks of Nigeria and also ensuring that the borders located in its AOR are secured.  The division is a composite division with affiliated combat support and combat service support units.

Training and Doctrine Command HQ Minna – The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Nigerian Army (NA) was established as a senior think-tank of the Nigerian Army in 1981. It is located in Minna Niger State. Minna which is the capital of Niger state is on 3.200 east and longitude 11.30o north. Minna is about 150km away from the Federal Capital and is endowed with arable land that is good for farming and animal husbandry. TRADOC is reputably known as the alternate NA Headquarters and offers advices, ideas and probable solutions to training and operational challenges of the NA.

Direct short Service Commission, SSC are trained in Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.

Direct Short Service Commission, DSSC are trained in the Infantry Corps Centre and School (ICCS), Jaji, Kaduna State.
