JAMB admission cut-off mark for varsity now 120, poly 100; Post-UTME reintroduced

Summary of the combined policy meeting of vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts of higher institutions on admissions into universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) now pegged the minimum cut-off mark for admissions into universities for the 2017/2018 academic year at 120 while 100 adopted as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into polytechnics.

The decision was taken together with vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts of higher institutions in the country at a combined policy meeting on admissions into universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria in Abuja.

First choice universities admission will close on October 15 while second choice admission by institutions closes on December 15, 2017.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede stresses that universities should not go below the minimum cut-off mark of 120 as adopted by the meeting for admissions.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede maintains that what JAMB has done is to recommend or determine the minimum, universities and polytechnics determine their admission cut-off mark.

The admission process is now automated with direct involvement of the registrar of JAMB for final approval according to JAMB Registrar.

Admission that were done under the table for this year for has been regularise admissions. From next year, it will no longer be accepted.

Post-UTME was banned because it had become an avenue for corruption however higher institutions has been encouraged to conduct aptitude tests for candidates seeking admission and the fee for the test pegged  at N2,000.
