National identity Card is an identity card or document issued by the government of a country to its citizens as valid means of identification and proof of nationality. The Nigerian National Identity card is issued by Nigerian government to Nigerian citizens.

In Nigeria, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is the commission in charge of processing and issuing of national identity card.

Having a national Identity card has almost become mandatory for all Citizens of Nigeria as it is required in every verification process in Nigeria. What is required for National ID card Application?

You need the following when applying for National ID card in Nigeria;

Your BVN number

Your Name(s) Link to BVN

Passport

Your bank debt card or any other ID card

Steps to Apply for National ID Card

Follow these steps to apply for National ID Card in Nigeria;

Step 1. Visit the official National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) website: www.nimc.gov.ng

Step 2. Download the enrolment form. Fill all forms in block letters and proceed to the nearest enrolment Centre for biometrics capturing in order to obtain the

Therefore, you will be given temporarily, a National Identification Number (NIN) Slip.  The NIN Slip will serve as a temporary National ID card.

OR

Walk into any NIMC Enrolment centre near you. Collect and fill the enrolment form with necessary demographic information.

Submit the completed enrolment form to the enrolment officer in charge. Re-confirm the data supplied before submitting.

Proceed to capture your face, fingerprint, and signature to back up your application.

After that, NIN slip will be handed over to you as confirmation of application. The NIN Slip will serve as a temporary National ID card.

What next after applying for National ID card?

The sad truth …………. after application, you may not be notified on the date of collection of your permanent National ID card.  Sometimes, even when you’re given date for the collection of permanent ID card; you’ll neither receive SMS nor email notification on due date to show that your national ID card is ready for collection.

How do you find out if your National ID is ready collection or not?

It is now a lot easier to know if your National ID card is ready or not than in the past years. After applying for National ID card and you do not receive either SMS or email notification for some time; visit NIMC portal, https://touch.nimc.gov.ng/ online to check if your national ID is ready for collection. If you check for the first time and it’s not ready, just keep checking online until it is ready.
