I recently travelled to South Africa for SONA scientific conference. Before I left for South Africa; I have to make all necessary payments patterning my registration for the conference here in Nigeria. I thought of different ways to do this. One easiest way that I finally used to register for the conference was to transfer money from my Nigeria bank account to the foreign bank account number that was sent to me for conference registration payment.
How was I able to transfer money from my Nigeria bank account to this foreign bank account number?
Transfering money from Nigeria Bank account to a foreign bank account is pretty very simple. All you need to do is to open a Domiciliary Account. It is very safe and secured. When it comes to transactions that have to do with sending and receiving of money in Nigeria from oversea or from oversea to Nigeria, domiciliary account is the last bus stop. I tried using my bank current account, western union money transfer and my credit card; they all failed me.
So, for the payment of the SONA Scientific Conference I have to open a GTBank domiciliary account.
How did I open the domiciliary Account?
A week before I travel to South Africa for the scientific conference, I went to GTBank in Enugu for my conference registration payment. I tried to pay with my credit card or do transfer payment via my current account but both failed. The customer service advised me to convert my current account to domiciliary account or rather open a fresh domiciliary account.
Right there at the bank, I was given a form to fill for opening a domiciliary account and alongside asked to provide;
2 references who operate current account (GTBank current holder would be preferable, they said), driving license, international ID card, National ID or voter’s card, utility bill and 2 passport photographs for the complete account opening. I filled the domiciliary account form and two days later, I returned back to the bank to complete the registration. I open three domiciliary at the same time- dollar, euro and pounds domiciliary account that will aid all my foreign transactions in nearby future.
How did I transfer the conference registration fee from my Nigeria domiciliary bank account to the South Africa bank account?
After opening the domiciliary account, I pay in the conference registration fee into the domiciliary account but before I was able to pay in the money into the account; I have to convert it to dollar. Dollar is an international accepted currency. However, Gtbank does not deal on changing currencies; I have to visit First bank of Nigeria plc for the conversion.
Remember, there are still other money changing agents you can visit for this purpose.
From my Nigeria domiciliary dollar account, I transfer the conference registration fee to the South Africa bank. In less than 24hours, they phoned; telling me that my payment has been received.
Four days later, I was at the SONA scientific conference in South Africa.
This is how I transfer my conference registration fee from my domiciliary bank account here in Nigeria to South African Bank account. This is one of the surest easy ways to transfer money from Nigeria Bank to Foreign Bank Account. You can transfer money from Nigeria to Ghana, USA, India, Australia, Dubai, China, Malaysia, Canada, UK ; in fact to any country in the world in the same way and it work well in all cases. It is highly secured. You can also transfer money to Nigerian bank from any country of the world in the way, all you need to do is to pay in the money into your domiciliary account wherever you are in the world, come back to Nigeria and withdraw the money.

Wire transfer to domiciliary account
Hi Emma. Thank you for your good works. How can I get an international money order or a dollar bank draft in Nigeria? I am supposed to complete an application for a US professional exam and the mode of payment acceptable for foreign applicants is either of these two. I have approached gtbank where I have a domiciliary account, I was told they don’t have the services
Such service is not available in Nigeria. Pay them via wire transfer.
Hi Emma is it possible 2 receive money from Nigerian acc to South African acc?any possible ways
Your question is not clear, Nwabisa. Reconstruct, please.
Hello Emma,
If I sent some money to a foreign account through my Nigerian domiciliary account, say on a Friday afternoon, when would the beneficiary be in receipt of it and how do I know that he is already in receipt of it?
Hi Emma. As I read through your post “how to send money from Nigeria to another country I was filled with astonishment at your wealth of knowledge and experience and at how easy it is for you to provide answers to questions within the shortest possible time. Thank you very much for your selflessness. pls tell me
1. What advantage is there in having a First Bank domiciliary account over those of other Banks?
2. If I only had a savings and a domiciliary accounts here in Nigeria but I’m in Canada for a purpose, can I pay for a product through my domiciliary account while still there in Canada?
1. I Prefer GTBank and Diamond bank domiciliary account to Firstbank domiciliary account. So, FirstBank domiciliary account has no advantage over those of other Banks.
2.”Can I pay for a product through my domiciliary account while still there in Canada?” Yes, of-course!
I had a chat with a customer service agent(GTB). It is the fastest way to get adequate info. The lady was helpful and sent me all documents required to open a domicillary account & how to get a dollar naira master card. try this link: http://www.gtbank.com/personal-banking/products/savings-and-investments/smart-kids-save/
Hello, i recently opened a domiciary account with Gtbank…. Say i want to transfer money to Australia, do i have to go to the bank each time i wish to transfer or can i do it using my mobile app(gtbank Mobile App)……(i already have money in the account)
With Diamond bank Domiciliary account, you can do the transfer online but since it GTB; you have to visit the bank each time you want to do transfer.
Great job as I read from the top… speaking of the domiciliary account, can I make use of First bank? if yes!, Q2 – you made mention of going to First Bank to convert naira to dollar earlier at the fourth paragraph … so can anyone in nigeria deposit into my domiciliary account by converting naira to dollar there right in the bank?
*Hat Tip…*
1. If you want open domiciliary account it with diamond bank or GTBank.
2. you can convert naira to dollar in any bank in Nigeria.
Please what is the easiest way to make donation into an account outside Nigeria eg South Africa. My bank recommended PayPal but is not working I don’t know if its because of the. Verve card am using. Please how can I go about it

Dear Emma,
I think it might really not be necessary to communicate via Whatsapp.
I would be leaving Nigeria for Canada at the end of this month to commence my graduate program in may. I would like to inquire if there could be a means of funding one’s domiciliary account by transferring money from my naira account (maybe through internet banking). I’m a salary earner and my naira account would be credited with my salary. How then can I fund my domiciliary account from my naira account especially if I don’t want anyone handling this for me. I definitely can’t travel down to Nigeria each time I’m paid and need to buy dollars from the black market in order to fund my domiciliary account. Your immediate response would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
The only means now is to use a third party. This will incur you some charges.
I mean if i want to pay through paypal will it be successful?
That is d problem…in paypal do u think they can credit the company huge sum of amount?
I don’t understand!
Domiciliary account but i will buy dollar from black market before the transfer right?
Yes!
Admin i heard they have blocked all the means of transferring money unless u buy dollar from the black market, please if there is any other option apart from western union n moneygram with Ria please tell me because am a business man and need to transfer to my client thanks and waiting.
Hello Chijioke morrison,
Use Domiciliary account or PayPal account
Hello Emma, thanks for the good work…I need your advice on this issue. I want to send money from Nigeria to USA without using moneygram or western union because I want the money to go directly to that US bank account. Is it possible to do wire transfer using Nigeria Dom account after being funded? Secondly, which bank do you advice I open the Dom account, bank that won’t have restrictions on transferring money from Nigeria. Thirdly, you said, you bought dollars from first bank, pls at what rate do firstbank sells the dollar now. And how can I buy dollars from first bank. I need the processes involved because when I got to diamond bank, they said if I open Dom account with them, I will go and source for the dollars outside that they don’t sell dollars. I need your help sir, thanks
YES,It is possible.
Open it with GTBank or Diamond
No bank sell dollar.
I think the best way to transfer money now to any part of the world is by bitcoin,it is safest, faster and also charges free.
Hello Tonyi,
You are making a point but the issue is; how many people know about Bitcoin.
Hello you all
I’m from Austria but was born in Nigeria. I would like to open an bank account in nigeria so that I can receive from nigeria.
This is how I think it could work for me, my friend pay Naira in the account and I receive euro.
The problem is I don’t know if that is possible and if yes which bank is the best?
Sry for my poor English
Hello AJ,
I am sorry! I can not comprehend what you said.
Hi,
i just opened a cooperate dom account with Diamond bank,
1, can i withdraw all my money in it ($395)?
2, if i want to transfer funds to China what will be the offshore bank charge, because the supplier said i have to bear the offshore charge and diamond bank charge as well?
3, diamond or gtb which of them is the best to run a dom account?
4, i opened a paypal account an i was told to link my savings account with it, pls can i fund my paypal account with my naira savings account?
5, how do i withdraw money from my paypal account?
I. Yes, you can withdraw all.
2. The maximum transfer via DOM Account is $10000/day (GTBank).
Transfer charge or fees via DOM account (outflow) is based on commission and it goes this way: 2% commission on every transfer, 5% of 2% commission on VAT, N4000 for Teles (optional but necessary). You will receive alert of the deposit within 48hour of the transfer by your bank (GTBank).
3. Both are good but some people tender to prefer Diamond DOM A/C because you can carry out online transaction using Diamond bank Domiciliary account. However, I use GTbank Domiciliary Account.
4. Yes.
5. There is no provision for that for Nigerians.
thanks very much admin, I want to open the account, but my fear is can I pay in below 100 dollar because they said I have to open it with a 100 dollar, and when transferring money, is the charges that high?
Hello Silas,
Don’t be afraid open the account. You can pay in 100 dollar and withdraw it immediately. The charge maybe a bit high but it is still the best if you are sending out money.
Thank you so much sir, but i still want to know, What are the requirements to open the domiciliary account, can I use my permanent voters card with Gtbank, and after opening the account with 100 dollar can I pay in below 100 dollar and transfer it to any bank account in Ghana, and also can I use my naira account to transfer money into the domiciliary account here in Nigeria. Am waiting for your reply soon because I need to open the account this week. Thanks

Q:::::When u r on their Internet banking page, does funding ur PayPal account using ur First Bank cards come directly from the amount of naira u hv on it?
Reason for asking is because for that of the Gtb or any USD Dom ACCs, U mentioned depositing Dollars.
There comes my assumed “easygoingness” with the choice of using PayPal from FBnk.
Awaiting ur rply.
Hello DnkyGh,
I am just seeing your comment now because it was not marked red as new comment.

Hello DnkyGh,
You can use your GTBank Naira MasterCard to fund your Skrill account INSTANTLY anytime.
You need a USD domiciliary account for the Money transfer. ATM machine and internet banking will not work for savings and current account, unless you are transferring the money to a bank within Nigeria but you said Ghana.
Now RE: LET ME KNOW TOO HOW TO MODESTLY MAKE A FREE WILLED DONATION IN ADMIRATION OF YOUR WORK.
I sent you an email base on this. You can kindly donate to us. Thank you for your anticipated generosity.

$1,670 000 usd to be precise.
Seeing that liquidity is a problem here in NG…

What does CBN say about Transaction limits?
Hello Donald Penn,
Use your Gtbank domiciliary account to transfer money bit by bit to South Africa. Usually, the maximum transfer limit is $10,000 per day.
Good bro if you still have up that can u make a wire transfer to US we can see to talk about it how much I will pay
Good morning Emma, thanks for your blog. Can I have idea of dollar rate in parallel market in Abuja (so called Aboki market)
Hello Faki,
For fast response to your comment, you have to post it on the right page. We have a page for Naira to dollar black market exchange rate. The page is: Naira to Dollar exchange rate; black market today-Lagos and Enugu. Next time, you can check the page and comment section. If need be, post your comment there. Naira is sold at N352 per dollar in black today and bought at N345 per dollar.
Thanks for sharing all of this. Gave me a better understanding of it.
But I still have a question.
Am in California, USA and I someone is trying to send money to me and is very difficult for them due to western union limits. To go straight to my question. Can I open a domiciliary account from USA?
Hello Aminat,
You can’t!
hi i learnt that bank can now make exchange by them selves, please, does this means one can now exchange money through banks, if yes how
Hello limse,
Naira has been floated. CBN proposed some selected banks to trade but the list of the banks and modalities are not yet available.
please mind naming these banks and the exchange rate of their transfer ?
Hello Limse,
our new exchange rate is flexible exchange rate. I do not know if I have answered your question, please make your point clear.
OK thank you once more, please, does that means form A transfer is not currently available, also, what bank ATM can i use here in Tanzania to with draw money as Diamon bank naira card stopped working and what could be the exchange rate .God bles
Hello Limse,
Form A transfer is temporary not available. If Diamond bank Naira MasterCard no longer work, I believe, that of Firstbank, GTBank, Fidelity bank will work. The bank exchange rate today is N282.75 per dollar. At black market, it is up to N330 – N340 per dollar.
Hi Mr.Emma,

Hello Mi,
You can NOT transfer Euro into USD Domiciliary account. You have to convert the Euro to dollar before it can be transfer into USD Domiciliary account.

thanks alot EMMA ONWUKA, she went to first bank and they said they don’t issue any outbound transfer currently, please, is their any other bank that offers the service(western union). also, how would she transfer the fund to my pay pal account here what information would i provide to her, would she need to open an account , cant she just provide my pay pal account to them instead of her opening another account or she goes to any third party provider?, lastly i have been trying hard to receive transfer for the past two months, but tried all the options available but still could not
Hello Limse,
You are talking about Western union and at the same time talking about PayPal. You said Firstbank Western union is currently not available, I will confirm that. Meanwhile, you have to check UBA moneyGram. Remember, what I said currently about using moneygram.
For her to use PayPal, she has to open a PayPal account and verify it or she open firstbank account and go through Firstbank PayPal. With this, she can send money to your PayPal account which you can withdraw to your local bank account if your PayPal account is linked to your bank account or verified.
please, how do i open a Paypal account here in Uganda and also, how do i fund the transfer from Nigeria ,?,my sister went to all the banks around, most of them refused to make the money gram, they all complain that their are so many people online, please, is their any other cheap and Good way to make transfer to here in East Africa
Hello limse,
To open a PayPal account in Uganda, open a local bank account in Uganda that issue international Visa card and then go online to open PayPal account. After opening the account verify and link the PayPal account to your bank account. However, it maybe easy for you to withdraw money from your PayPal account in Uganda.
Did she also try the Western Union money transfer?

My Name is Emmanuel, I am planning to pay my school fees into University College Dublin but am worried about the payment. Am confused. Is it compulsory I have to convert my naira into black market Euro currency of N364/€1 or the official bank rate N224/€1. These two rate are contradicting. Which of the two am I to use. The school fees for first semester is €6000 and this is what I need to pay first. If I use the black marke rate of N364 the fees will be outrageous (N2,184,000) if I use the bank offical rate of N224 I will pay (1,350,000). Please help me out by explaing how to pay my fees in Euro in a cheaper rate.
Hello Emmanuel,
I will suggest you try the official CBN form A.
Money was sent from the UK on 27 of March and was delayed due to the Easter celebration. But ought to have gotten to Nigeria by now, I will like to know how many days in maximum does it take for an international bank transfer to get to a gtb dom account.
Hello isiak,
if you didn’t receive the money within 48hours to 14working days, ask your bank what is happening.
I have a friend in Canada that needs to pay me for services rendered. He said he is not sure of how to do that.
I am intending to open a dollar domiciliary account. How can he do the transfer? Thank you Emma.
I ask this because it is almost impossible to receive any payments here in Nigeria through PayPal. Please help me out.
Can he just do the transfer directly through his account there in Canada to me here in Nigeria?
Yes! But if you wish to receive and withdraw the money as foreign currency in Nigeria; you have to open a domiciliary account.
Hello Jonathan,
I will suggest you read this; How to receive money in Nigeria from Abroad & withdraw it. Choose any method in the article you think will be convenient for you and suggest it to your client in Canada. If after reading the article and you have any questions, you can ask.

Hi,pls how do ria money transfer work,i wank to receive money in ghana
Hello Gift,
From the comments in this post; how to send money from Nigeria to another country; “RIA MONEY TRANSFER– Ria Money Transfer is a subsidiary of Euronet Worldwide Inc. It is an international money transfer organization that allows funds to be sent and received directly to the recipient’s account or agent location as specified by the sender. Apart from money transfer, Ria money transfer are also into Bill Payment, mobile top up, cashing cheque, currency exchange and money order.
Ria Money Transfer is Similar to Western Union transfer and MoneyGram but NOT as popular as Western Union and MoneyGram. Ria money transfer agents covers over 137 countries. Ria money transfer can be done online or at any agent location
AGENTS OF RIA MONEY TRANSFER IN NIGERIA
In Nigeria; Firstbank, Diamond bank, Skybank and some others bank are agents to Ria Money transfer.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SENDING MONEY THROUGH FIRSTBANK RIA MONEY TRANSFER
The Requirement for sending money through Firstbank Ria Money Transfer is quite similar to that of Firstbank western union. However, to use Firstbank Ria money transfer to send between two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) and above; Firstbank expect you to be firstbank account holder or be identified by a firstbank account holder.
CBN GUIDELINE AND MAXIMUM TRANSFER LIMIT
The maximum transfer limit through Ria money transfer is $5000 in naira equivalent to any receiver elsewhere. CBN guideline does not permit company to company transfer through RIA money. All transfer via Ria money transfer must be person to person.
RIA MONEY TRANSFER CHARGES
Ria money transfer charges are fairly reasonable. Receivers’ don’t need to identified themselves if the money is wired into their bank account
To send money via Ria money transfer, visit any Firstbank near you and request for Ria money transfer. You will be given the forms to fill. Requirements are similar to Western Union transfer”.
Hi Emma,
Like ur replies & comments, very helpful and straightforward. So here’s my question to you. Sending money out of Naija at cbn exchange rates is hell. Using money gram, Western Union (and probably Ria money) is next to impossible cos the whole country has faced that direction. Now I have noticed that this whole exchange rate issue is on the 3 major currencies. Is there a way to send out other currencies like AUD, CAD, etc? So that the receiver abroad can make changes and get a reasonable value.
Hello Jerry,
No way!!! You can’t operate an account with such currencies in Nigeria.
Hi,
Please am planning to travel to Canada for my masters, but I don’t know how to transfer funds to Canadian bank. The fund am talking about is the $10000 estimated fees for my upkeep for a year as requested by the embassy. Please help me, am running out of time
Hello Jonathan,

Hello Elora,
you don’t need to have an account in Nigeria before your sister can send money to your account in USA. She can send the money through MoneyGram, Western Union money transfer, RIA money transfer, etc
Hello sir, I heard that western union has been stopped is that true? Money gram has very limited spaces to send money out of Nigeria. Is there any other way or advice?
Hello Gentle J,
Western Union has NOT stopped and Moneygram does NOT have limited space. You can still use any of the two to send money out of Nigeria. The maximum transfer limit still remain the same; $1000 in every 3months. You can as well try Ria money transfer depending on the country you are sending the money to

I’m sorry ROHITH, I took a break but I’m back to work.

Hi,
My name is Ojukumbe Nguano. After reading your post here i decided to tell you how I was able to make it. I had 150,000,000USD in full hard cash to move from Nigeria and have been fighting like a mad to get it moved from there for nearly 3 years. Until recently i came across a company who helped me a lot in moving the funds to an LLC company account. All went very well and perfectly smooth and my money is 100% safe. Nothing to say.
Like me I am sure there are a lot of people who are desperate about moving there funds and who may be having a lot of trouble with that, ok I’m sharing the solution with you. Contact them on inc@offshorecompanyformation.org
I simply love these guys.
O.N. – Nigeria.
Hello Ojukumbe.N,
I DON’T believe you and I wouldn’t want anybody here to believe you. LLC is a United States-specific form of a private limited company. LLC is a hybrid type of legal structure that provides the limited liability features of a corporation and the tax efficiencies and operational management. LLC companies are NOT bank neither are they third party that are involve in anything concerning money.
So, don’t deceive anybody here.
Ojukumbe Nguano,
You are a cheap thieve. Go get a life, scumbag!

Hello Bright,
YES, If you open a domiciliary account here in Nigeria and you get to UK and open a new bank account;you can transfer the money you have in your DOM account into your new UK bank account.
You can also withdraw money from your domiciliary account in UK depending on the Bank you open the domiciliary account with.

Hello Sambo,

I have sent the above link to your mobile phone number.
Please explain better on the conversion from naira to dollars. Is it that GTb don’t sell dollars? Or what?. Thanks
Hello Jerry,
GTBank neither sell currencies (dollars, euro, pounds etc) nor do currency conversion. So, if you want to transfer money from Nigeria to abroad (let say to USA) through your GTbank dollar domiciliary account and you have less money in that account than you want to transfer; GTBank will NOT accept or allow you pay in any currency other than dollar into your DOM account. If you ask them to convert the money you are having which is in Naira to Dollar, they will tell you they don’t that.
Firstbank of Nigeria sell currencies and they also do currency conversion. With their outbound money transfer service, you are sure that you can transfer money from Nigeria to in any country around the world.

Man, keep quiet…
Haven’t you heard of GTBank’s FX Transaction?
Visit your gtbank internet/mobile banking, it’s there
Younglegend,
Have you ever use GTBank’s FX transaction before? If you have, tell us how it works ( I mean how you succeed in using it).
@ emma don’t mind this old legend , FX transfer in gtbank only convert your dollars to Naira at the bank current rate , not the other way round
Yea, you are right.
